Mame Kurogouchi Fall 2026: Nature and Nurture
If the world truly looked like Maiko Kurogouchi envisions in her collections, fashion would feel like strolling through a living landscape. Across seasons, her vision transforms spaces into places of wonder—where a hazy mountain ridge unfurls a poetic path lined with wildflowers, delicately crafted Japanese glass, and inventive takes on century-old techniques.
For fall, her process braided time between Tokyo, where she and her team are based, and the rugged Nagano region near her hometown. She described the silhouettes as “transparent landscapes,” a continuation of the dreamy, lyrical vibe from her spring collection.
With a magpie’s curiosity, the designer layered motifs and textile effects drawn from close observation of translucent surfaces—emerald-green pressed glass adorned with florals, shoji screens, and frost-dappled windows—into the collection.
This season, the sheer, buildable fabrics carried a more practical edge, a nod to Kurogouchi’s reality as her label’s first client. She joked about it before the show, acknowledging the need to balance artistry with real-world use.
Exhibit A showcased technical nylon used for anoraks and trousers, plus a handful of backpacks that referenced mountaineering gear, yet all filtered through Kurogouchi’s refined, elegant lens.
That sporty-cool note sat beside the brand’s signature fusion of luxury and intellect: oversized robe coats in heavy cashmere, long blazers with just-enough-shoulder to create effortless slouch, and knitwear ranging from fuzzy chimney-neck sweaters to sheer, multi-layered dresses in soft, misty gradients.
Other standout moments included a T-shirt featuring a novel printing method that creates a glass-bead surface, a technique that’s scalable for production, and a dramatic hooded coat in a fabric that read like a dévoré floral. The material was cotton voile overlaid with washi paper, its patterns traced with a fixing agent; after washing, only the motif remained. Kurogouchi described finding this technique through an interiors specialist who had developed it and then set it aside.
These inventive notions are what keep her label from simply embodying quiet luxury and continually entice her devoted following.
